MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

We are excited for the 2012 Spring Active Guide, which is filled with great programs and services available as we begin to plan for the warmer months ahead.  We have expanded the fitness programs and our popular summer Kids Club camp and we continue to offer a variety of times for aquatic fun and learning.

We are really excited to be able to offer a new public swim program, Toonie Mondays.  These are designed to encourage participation by reducing the fee and promoting the fun and health benefits that swimming provides.  We anticipate many people will enjoy taking time for a swim on Toonie Monday!

Another great opportunity to stay active is skating throughout the spring and summer at the PCU Centre.  We will continue to offer Shinny hockey times and free public skate in the Portage Mutual Arena.

It is hard to believe that we are embarking on the second anniversary of the PCU Centre, as it was two years ago on February 27, 2010 when we first opened the doors publicly.  We have endured many changes and have worked hard to provide the best possible recreation facilities and services to Portage and region.  One recent change has been our farewell to Mr. Dave Green who had served as our Facility Operations Manager since we started the PCU Centre project.  Dave’s expertise, professionalism and extreme work ethic has greatly contributed to this legacy.  We sincerely thank him for everything he has done in providing a safe and wonderful community place for us to enjoy.  We wish him well as he returns to his full time position with the City of Portage la Prairie as Parks Manager.  We are also pleased to welcome Mr. Randy Miller, our new Facility Operations Manager to the PRRA team and we look forward to working with him.

There are many reasons to visit and explore what is available at the PCU Centre.  We look forward to seeing you soon!

Sincerely,
Jennifer Sarna, Executive Director
