PCU CENTRE CONSTRUCTION UPDATES - November 26, 2009

Arena

 • Permanent power to be hooked up in early December.

 • Pouring concrete pad near west end doors.

 • Heating lines installed, tested, and backfilled.

 • Installing rebar and main arena floor scheduled to be poured December 7. 

 • Irwin to install seats (1673 folding chairs with cup holders) early December.

 • Arena dasher boards to be installed by Global in mid December.

 • Concourse washrooms and Community Room, concessions and vendor masonry almost

    complete.

 • Ice plant likely not operational until early 2010.

 

Atrium

 • In floor heating started and drywall taping continues along main walls and in administration

    offices.

 • Glulam beams are now exposed and look fantastic.

  

Wellness Centre

 • Floor to be backfilled with sand.

 • Sanding and taping continues on walls.

 

Pool

 • Tiling begins in December.

 • Walls underway, lots of mechanical work to be done.

 • Levelling of the floor will occur in preparation for inspection and pouring to follow afterwards.

 

Site Work

 • Levelling of the site in preparation for winter.

 • Landscaping to continue in spring.

 • Main water line to be turned on soon.

 

Second Arena

 • Completed pile caps.

 • Starting grade beam pour.

 • Structural steel arriving in December.

 • Estimated completion August 2010.

 

PCU CENTRE CONSTRUCTION UPDATES - October 31, 2009

Arena

 • Prepare to pour final topping on upper concourse, overtop in floor heating.

 • Ice surface area is cleaned out and is being graded down in preparation for Cimco to install

    their heating lines.

 • Preparation to follow that for main arena floor concrete pour.

 • Railings installed and seating aisles and stairs are poured. 

 • Elevator is installed.

 • Priming the north dressing rooms in preparation for painting

 

Atrium

 • All administration area has electrical and mechanical rough ins.

 • Much of the drywall has been placed in atrium and in offices.

 • Many of the windows are now installed on the outside.

 

Change Rooms

 • Over next week or so, mechanical and electrical will be complete in roof so ceilings can be

    installed.

 • Floor pours in change rooms will be shaped to drains following ceiling work.

 

Pool

 • Myrtha pool panels continue to be installed.

 • Whirl pool is assembled and soon will be cemented in place.

 • Pool floor will be graded soon and once elevations are correct and approved, the concrete will

    be poured.

 • Winter hoarding is in place on north wall of pool and temporary heaters will be set up to keep

    from freezing.

 • Temporary boilers will be set up and used with existing in floor heating piping to provide

    temporary heat.

 • North side curtain wall will be arriving within a week.

 

Site Work

 • Siding is close to being finished.

 • Roofer is on site, experiencing some delays with fall rain.

 • Sidewalks and drop off road poured last week at North entrance.

 • Curb on east parking area/road poured, grading to be complete this week to pour that road.

 

Second Arena

 • Piling now complete.

 • Rebar installation in next on foundation plan.

 • Foundation permit has been approved.

 

PCU CENTRE CONSTRUCTION UPDATES - October 1, 2009

Arena

 • Started final concrete pour on hollowcore to form seating walkways, anticipated to be

    complete in 2 - 3 weeks.

 • Concourse railing installed.

 • Elevator to be installed next week.

 • Cimco installed ice plant on concourse of main arena and south wall is being enclosed.

 

Atrium

 • Some windows have been installed.

 • Starting to close up before winter and start heating to finish drywall.

 • Brick veneer is near completion on the exterior.

 • Roofing should be complete in a few weeks for the entire building.

 

Change Rooms

 • Overhead mechanical now complete.

 • Interior walls are now being developed and privacy change rooms are taking shape.

 

Pool

 • Pouring last section of deck and will be complete deck next week.

 • Few concrete pours for pedestals for kiddie slide support remain.

 • Pool mechanical equipment has been installed on the mezzanine of the pool on the East side

    and room is being enclosed.

 • Tri Clad is finishing  up the blue-skin in preparation for siding.

 • Most exterior masonry veneer will be completed soon.

 • Final pool wall on the North side will remain open for several more weeks to accommodate

    equipment access into the building.

 

Wellness Centre

 • South facing glass walls to arrive next week.

 

Site Work

 • Second arena piling is underway.

 • West end parking lots are now paved and lined.

 • Bus lane on west side and south side loop will likely not be paved until spring to

    accommodate construction of the second arena.

 • North end curb has been poured and around east side of building; paving preparations begin

    next week for the East parking lot in coordination with the water main project on the

    northeast side.

 • Pond has been reworked in the landscaping plan to reflect a slight depression in the grassy

    area for storm water.

 

PCU CENTRE CONSTRUCTION UPDATES - September 17, 2009

 Arena

 • Mason work finished for seating concrete block.

 • Metal railing is being fastened and installed.

 • Next week steps will be poured.

 • Ambassador continues to install in-floor heating.

 • Arena lights have been installed for the most part.

 

Atrium/Multipurpose Room

 • Close to finishing up the HVAC.

 • Elevator on site, installation begins next week.

 • Window frames installed.

 • Glass is on site for windows.

 • Need to determine south rink wall for temporary closure before second arena is attached.

 • Aluminum framing is in.

 

Change Rooms

 • Overhead duct work is complete.

 • Sprinkler mains are being roughed in this week.

 • Next week masonry walls will begin to take shape.

 

Pool Mechanical

 • Hollow core on mezzanine.

 • Air units in place and pool mechanical room being enclosed to protect equipment.

 • Walls will be up next week.

 

Pool

 • Myrtha pool system is on site and being prepared for installation.

 • Base angles are being installed.

 • Some pool deck being poured.

 • Milestone is that the HVAC is installed for the most part in the pool.

 

Second Arena

 • 2nd arena piles laid out yesterday.

 • Steel has been awarded for piles.

 • 100 piles are anticipated to begin next week.

 • Grades beams and rebar will quickly follow, foundation drawings are complete on site.

 

Site Work

 • EF Moon will be back on site next week to complete base work on southeast road.

 • East access road and parking lots are to be paved in early October where most of the hard

    landscaping will be complete.

 • Soft landscaping will likely be postponed to the spring.

 

 

PCU CENTRE CONSTRUCTION UPDATES - September 3, 2009

 Arena

 • All hollowcore is installed

 • In floor heating throughout arena seating areas will be installed after final brick work is

    complete on south wall and after Cimco installs main components of the ice plant.

 • Lift in next week to install lights - speakers are on site to be installed afterwards.

 • Sprinkler system will soon be installed.

 • Concourse partitions for upper concessions and vendor will be installed once duct work is

    complete in the upper ceilings directly above.

 

Atrium

 • Partitions are done.

 • 80% drywalled.

 • Reception desk is framed.

 

Pool

 • Pool deck pour on west side is nearly ready.

 • House keeping pad is being poured this week.

 • Large HVAC units will be lifted into place soon and then the east mechanical room will be

    closed in.

 • Overhead install is nearly 70% complete.

 

Hydro

 • Transformer pads are scheduled for next week.

 

Site

 • West parking lot is ready for paving.

 • Once that parking lot is paved, the main construction site access will be relocated east of

    existing access road on the south entrance.

 • Pavement around the building will continue in a west to east direction.

 • Main water lines are being installed underground, waiting for water main to come under

    Crescent Lake for connection in fall.

 • Plans are to enclose the building in anticipation of colder temperatures.

 

PCU CENTRE CONSTRUCTION UPDATES - August 20, 2009

 • Cimco is to come onsite to provide new layout for equipment; new delivery date is

    September 15th.

 • Dominion is looking to get the seating plan and sample of arena chair colour so Stantec can

    coordinate interior colours.

 • Old scoreclock requires a new winch system which is being designed and will be provided to

    Stantec to arrange how it will be hung on pre-engineered structure of new arena.

 • Myrtha pool system has arrived in Wpg from Italy.  The pool and Hollandia are scheduled to

    come on site after Sept. long weekend.

 • Arena masonry walls around seats will be installed next week.

 • Hand and guard rails along arena seating tiers will be installed prior to final floor pour in

    next few weeks.

 • Mechanical and electrical in administration are underway.

 • West access to arena is not poured yet to accommodate heavy equipment coming through.

 • "Tile Red" exterior arena panels are near completion.  A yellow colour accent panel will

    complete the exterior finish.

 • MPR/Atrium window frames have been measured and ordered, working on closing in

    building for winter.

 • Mechanical and electrical on east side of pool is coming and coordinated with roof schedule to

    close it in.

 • Walls in pool will be built before final pool floor slab will be poured.

 • Parking lot by Exhibition Building is near completion, lines will be painted and curb stops

    pinned next week.

 • West side parking lot near arena is next to be paved after last load of hollowcore is

    delivered.

 • Gas line is in and meter will be in soon.

 

PCU CENTRE CONSTRUCTION UPDATES - July 29, 2009

 • Arena hollowcore is being installed and giving shape to the seating areas.

 • Duct work and sheet metal are on site.

 • Media and Soundroom floor pour and Client Entertainment rooms are scheduled this week.

 • Cimco moved in to install heating lines in seating area.

 • Arena north and west exterior wall panels are complete, south wall is on hold until second

    arena is determined.

 • Locker room floors will be poured this week.

 • Pool lower concrete that supports pool is complete.

 • Main floor hollowcore in pool is complete.

 • Pool structural steel is in place.

 • Wave chamber and pool deck will be poured this week.

 • All main floor pool elevations will be prepped this week and the intention is to pour pool deck

   before main walls are installed.

 • Roofer is on site.

 • Flat roof on atrium.

 • Ceiling sprinklers, mechanical in pool area will be installed this week.

 • West side parking lot is near paving this week.

 

PCU CENTRE CONSTRUCTION UPDATES - June 18, 2009

 • West parking lot is almost ready with base.

 • Started north road access.

 • Continuing with sub-grade build up on east end (and causing minor dust storms at Splash).

 • Lift station upgrades in mid to late August may cause parking lot issues for Splash.             

    Alternative parking options are being discussed.

 • Roofer should be on site this week.

 

PCU CENTRE CONSTRUCTION UPDATES - June 4, 2009

The site of the new PCU Centre is busy with activity. Trades of all kinds are setting up trailers and equipment and supplies are arriving daily. The following notes highlight some of the construction progress to date:

Main Arena

 • Brick layer ready to develop inner walls, starting on NE corner.

 • Seating supporting walls will follow after install of hollow core.

 • Process of finishing granular fill for floor pour.

 • Underground plumbing and electrical is going well.

 • Arena roof is scheduled for install soon.

 

Rotary Grand Hall (Multipurpose Rooms)

 • Floor slab will be poured early June.

 • Steel stud contractor started building interior walls.

 • Another week before roof is done.

 • Underground electrical and plumbing work is complete.

 • Compact testing to follow, before floor pour.

 

Lockers – amazing amount of work to be done by Ambassador (plumbing)

 

Pool

 • Currently roof decking is being applied then vapor barrier, insulation, then roof to be    

    installed.

 • Two weeks to finish lower concrete before Hollandia (pool contractor) is scheduled to come

    in to install pipes for hot tub, lazy river.

 • Unique Myrtha pool design is currently in production.

 

Site

 • West parking lot is developing quickly.

 • Poured for lamp standards in parking lots and completed underground electrical.

 • Will soon cover with geo textile and then lay gravel in preparation for paving.
