| BUILDING PLAN | |
The facility is to respond to the needs described by the public. The development is based on the community’s clearly outlined wishes for this type of facility. The Stantec consultant team has recommended the construction of an aquatic centre, fitness centre, multipurpose space, main and secondary arena as well as additional support space (retail, multi-use, concessions etc.) Of primary importance is the development of the aquatic centre and main arena. These two component areas are interconnected through the community hall spaces. A conceptual vision of the facility can act to create a sense of place, a prime consideration in a community recreation centre that will reflect the values of the City of Portage la Prairie. The environment will be a significant aspect of the experience that is expected for a multiuse recreation complex. Space relationships and planning have been well thought out and facilitate purpose and experience. The floor plans have been developed in adherence to the following design considerations: EntryThere will be a “wow” factor upon entering the complex. The community will come here for fun and enjoyment. A good view into the lively and energetic atmosphere of the pool will be a great entry feature. PresentationThe “Atruim” - the interior “in-between space” will provide good visibility and ease of movement to the various elements within the complex. Way finding will be direct and simple, providing a level of comfort for all ages, abilities and cultures. Viewing of ActivitiesThe exposure, the ease of viewing from the common spine of the complex was an important planning consideration. A Social Focal PointThe facility will be a place of gathering for the community. This will contribute in part to a sense of vitality and community pride. A well located café/lounge/seating area will be a significant contributor to the life of the complex. Connectivity to future elementsIn consideration of future growth, the facility is designed in such a way that any new elements will not be isolated from the original core and can be easily added to the exterior foundations of the multiplex.
